As you know, in a few days we will be celebrating Halloween, such a fun day for children all ages. It is important that our students get to know the traditions of other countries where English is spoken, and do it in an interesting way. Therefore, I have thought that the following activities could be appealing for our pupils in this amazing day. There are activities for young learners, from 1st grade to 3rd grade of Primary Education. I will be posting them along the week. Let's see if you like them! You can post any comments with any suggestions you may have :)
One activity for young learners could be a Halloween Bingo. Kids love it! Bingo is a great way to introduce children to new vocabulary. You can help them acquire the vocabulary by showing flashcards while telling them the word out loud. It is a very simple activity to do because it has a few rules and each player has his/her own game board. You have a sample of bingo cards below.
There are also some books that can be interesting to read in the classroom. As it is a motivating topic, students will keep their attention on the story. Let's see a few examples:
- Boo to you (by Lois Ehlert)
- Dem Bones (by Bob Barner)
- Five Little Pumpkins (by Dan Yaccarino)
Another fun activity to do with young learners could be to create their own pumpkin masks. They are so easy to make. Plus, children can learn vocabulary about the materials and about pumpkins. The only materials you are going to need are the following:
- Paper plates
- Glue
- Scissors
- Colour pens
Enjoy the activities! and learn a lot!
